Background:
Personal Antivirus is a program that reports false security threats in hopes for unknowing users to purchase the fake application.

How It’s Installed:
The program has to be installed manually, but launching any application or file that contains the virus will do that automatically for you. The threat is common in a lot of corrupt songs downloaded from Peer 2 Peer files sharing networks, such as Limewire and Frostwire.

How To Remove:
1) Boot your computer into Safe Mode (If you need help with that, click here)
2) When in Safe Mode, Click Start > Run
3) In the run box, type regedit
4) Navigate to and delete the following registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\”PersonalAV” = “C:\Program Files\PersonalAV\pav.exe”

5) Then, navigate to and delete these following registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment\AVUNINST
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment\AVAPP

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]

6) Exit the registry.
7) After that, I would recommend running some sort of Antivirus tool to remove any remaining traces!
